Nattokinase

Nattokinase is a potent fibrinolytic enzyme extracted and highly purified from a traditional Japanese food called natto. Natto is a fermented cheese-like food that has been used in Japan for over 1000 years for its popular taste and as a folk remedy for heart and vascular diseases. Natto is produced by a fermentation process by adding Bacillus subtilis var. natto. a benefical bacteria, to boiled soybeans. The resulting nattokinase enzyme, is produced when Bacillus siibtilis var. natto acts on the soybeans. While other soy foods contain enzymes, it is only the natto preparation that contains the specific nattokinase enzyme.

Nattokinase is a naturally-occurring profibrinolytic enzyme that helps dissolve unhealthy coagulation of blood and supports fibrinolytic activity. Nattokinase is a particularly potent treatment because it enhances the body’s natural ability to fight blood clots in several different ways and has many benefits including convenience of oral administration, confirmed efficacy, prolonged effects, cost effectiveness, and can be used preventatively. It is a naturally occurring, food dietary supplement that has demonstrated stability in the gastro-intestinal tract.

The properties of nattokinase closely resemble those properties of plasmin so it dissolves fibrin directly! More importantly, it also enhances the body’s production of both plasmin and other clot-dissolving agents, including urokinase (endogenous). Nattokinase may actually be superior to conventional clot-dissolving drugs such as recombinant tissue plasminogen activators (rt-PA), urokinase, and streptokinase, which are only effective therapeutically when taken intravenously within 12 hours of a stroke or heart attack. Nattokinase, however, may help prevent the conditions leading to blood clots with an oral daily dose of as little as 2,000 fibrin units (FU) or 50 grams of natto.

Nattokinase appears to have the added benefit of significantly reducing elevated blood pressure (an often concomitant condition in cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as high fibrin). Nattokinase appears to be safe, and has been used for over 1,000 years safely with no reports of toxicity. Before taking Nattokinase, however, because of its action, it is recommended that you consult with your healthcare professional or pharmacist to see if Nattokinase is for you. Various other nutritional supplements / herbs have been reported to have fibronlytic activity, however, the potency of Nattokinase appears to be superior.
