Tolfenamic Acid

Tolfenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) thought to exert its actions by a prostanoid-independent mechanism. It inhibits fMLP- and A23187-induced Ca2+ influx in human PMNL with an IC50 value of approximately 20 uM.

Tolfenamic acid belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of a chemical called prostaglandin which the body produces in response to injury or certain diseases. Prostaglandins are responsible for causing swelling, pain and inflammation associated with these conditions.
